Living on a cul-de-sac is something a lot of families love. In fact, some families will pay more for the same house on a similar-sized lot if it is located on a cul-de-sac. They say that living on a cul-de-sac can give a child an old-fashioned childhood.
Patricia Shannon shares her story with Southern Living on how she fell in love with her cul-de-sac home. She starts off by telling when they first moved into their home that was located on a dead-end street, it became a little neighborhood on its own. The first sign was the friendly neighbors who came by bearing gifts and introducing themselves. They really became part of the group when they were added to their street’s group text.
The dead-end street welcomed everyone with two turtles holding flags warning that there were children at play. All the kids were 10 and under and they would go from yard to yard playing. The kids felt loved and safe in their little cul-de-sac.
She goes on to explain that her kids were and are never bored due to the constant fun activities and entertainment going on at the dead end. She loved and still does love to look out the window from the kitchen and see all the bustling activities. These include catching fireflies, homemade waterslides and picnics. A big plus is the love they all have from being able to hear the kids outside running and playing.
